2008 Sunday Modified League
Rules
1. The Double AA
Sports - Sunday Modified League will play under ASA Modified (10 Man) pitch rules. Any
other rule not stated below will be based on ASA Modified-Pitch rules, to be found in the
ASA Rule Book provided to each team before the season starts. I highly recommend that each
team prints out a copy of the league rules page and staples it to the back of their score
book in case of questions to league specific rules by the umpires at the games.
Captains should review league rules with umpires prior to the game.
2. Limited bunting (3) is permitted for each team.
3. Stealing is prohibited
4. All games will be regulation 7 innings. In the
event of a tie after 7 complete innings. We will play 2 extra innings up to a total of 9
innings, if the game is still tie then both teams receive a tie for the game.
5. Pitching distance will be 46 feet.
6. Base distance will be 60 feet. (We are not
required to use a double base at first)
7. Home team is responsible to bring bases
8. Game results: The Winning team is
responsible to call all scores in by 4pm on game day to Tony 201-248-5057 or send an email
to: doubleaasports@optonline.net.
9. No metal spikes - anyone
wearing metal spikes will be ejected from the game.
10. Each team will present 1 softball as provided by the league to the
umpire. This is the only ball to be used.
11. \Inclement
weather: A league decision on rainouts will be made by 7-7:30am on Game day and will be
posted on the Web Site and on voicemail 201-248-5057. If there is no message stating
the game is cancelled, consider the game on.
12. Rain Out Policy: 1st and 2nd Rainouts will result in an extension of
the season.
On the third rainout we will double up games.
13. Forfeits will be 15 minutes after scheduled start time. 8-man minimum
to start game. Team must finish game with a minimum of 8 men. Teams are permitted to begin
game with 8 players. The 9th and 10th players can be inserted at any time at the bottom of
the batting order as they arrive.
14. Rosters are limited to 20 player limit and must be submitted to league
prior to 1st game. After April 27th and before July 15th manager's can release a player
(limit 1) and add a replacement by sending an updated roster to the league identifying the
new and removed player, must be done 24 hours before next scheduled game.
15. Players must appear in 4 games to be eligible for the playoffs. Team
managers can challenge a players eligibility by requesting a form of ID (2 if no picture).
If a player doesn't have numbered team jersey, name doesn't appear on roster or proper ID,
the umpire will prohibit player participation in game.
16. Teams are required to have team uniforms by the 2nd game of the season.
No player will be game eligible without matching uniform shirt after 2nd game of season.
17. Pitching is 10 Man Modified pitch, No Windmill or Slingshot. In the act
of delivering the ball, the pitcher shall not take more that one step, which must be
forward, toward the batter and simultaneous with the delivery of the ball toward home
plate. Elbow must be locked during downward swing of arm. Release can be no more than 6
inches from body. Hips and Shoulders must be square to home plate. Pitcher must start
delivery with at least one foot on the rubber (non pivot foot Must be on or directly
behind rubber) Illegal Pitch is ruled as a ball. The 3rd illegal pitch will require the
removal of the pitcher from the mound. This rule will be strictly enforced.
18. Runners can advance only on hit pitch or on pick off play when runner
leaves base after ball leaves pitchers hand. The play is a force play and no tag is
required. If throw is wild or misplayed runners must re-tag base before advancing.
19. Courtesy Runner or "Base Burglar" can be used once per
inning. Courtesy Runner is always last batted out. Base Burglar is from bench.
20. Designated hitters may be used to bat for fielder, or 2 extra hitters
may be used. Max 12 batters.
21. The run rule awards a win to a team that is ahead 15 runs after 4
innings or 12 runs after 5 innings in a game. Any time a team is ahead, or goes ahead by
above after trailing team bats minimum required times, game ends. We will remove Run rule
in the Finals
22. A game called by umpires due to weather, shall be regulation if 5 or
more complete innings have been played, or the home team is ahead after 4 1/2 innings. Tie
games can result after 5 complete innings. Playoff games must be played full 7 innings,
unless run rule is in effect.
23. All bats utilized in this league must be on the American Softball
Association (ASA) Certified Listing
(http://www.softball.org/about/certified_equipment.asp). Then select bats, select go and
review .pdf file.
24. Anyone thrown out of the game by the umpires will receive a one
game suspension. If the same player gets thrown out of another game that player is
suspended for the remainder of the season including playoffs.
The Commissioner's, Captains and umpire involved will review all ejection's.
25. In the rare event the umpire does not show up for a scheduled game. The
coaches can agree to play the game using an agreed upon person as the umpire or the
catcher can call balls and strikes and the base coaches call the bases OR they can
have the game rescheduled. PLEASE try to play games whenever possible to avoid
rescheduling.
26. Protests - There will be a $35. Charge for all filed protests if you
win the protest the money is refunded. Protests may
only be made on an incorrect interpretation of the rules. All protests must be sent via
e-mail within 24 hours of your game.
27. Playoffs Tiebreakers are head to head results first, then division
record, then runs allowed, then runs scored. In 2008 based on 13 Teams, 8 teams will
make the playoffs.
Playoff Format: All Rounds will be best of three format, better seed is home team games 1
& 3.
Division Winner's will be seeded #1 and #2. Then the next best 6 records will make the
playoffs.
1st Round - #8 vs #1, #7 vs #2, #6 vs #3 and #5 vs #4.
2nd Round - Best Seed remaining plays lowest seed and the other 2 seeds will play
FINALS - Remaining 2 teams play for the championship
28. All teams are to clean up any mess they have made at all fields.
29. Alcoholic Beverages and any illegal or controlled substances are
prohibited on or near playing fields at all times. ANY TEAM, OR MEMBER OF A TEAM CAUGHT
VIOLATING THIS RULE MAY SUBJECT HIS TEAM TO DISMISSAL FROM THE LEAGUE. THIS
RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
