2008 Mahwah Industrial Softball League Rules

1.     GENERAL

A.       Team rosters must be submitted to the league by April 1, 2008. Rosters will consist of up to 30 players. Rosters may be updated through June 1, 2008 providing that the league is notified 24 hours in advance of the game. It is the responsibility of the team manager to submit roster to the league commissioner prior to them playing in a game.

B.        The winning team will notify the league of the game results the next morning by calling Tony Davino at 201-248-5057 or email to: doubleaasports@optonline.net

C.        In case of inclement weather, the home team is responsible for checking the field and  contacting the other team to make a decision on whether or not to play. If you do not intend to play, the home team must then call Tony Romagnino  973-557-6965 and leave a message on his machine by 4:30pm. Failure to do so will result in the home team being charged for the umpire fee. If the field is non-playable, contact the league commissioner to see if the game can be played at another field that day. If the game is not rained out by 4:30pm, but it starts to rain between 4:30pm and 6:15pm, then your team must go to the field to make a decision whether to play.

D.       Alcoholic Beverages and any illegal or controlled substances are prohibited on or near playing fields at all times. Reported incidents from the town will lead to players being removed from the league. NO EXCEPTIONS. This rule will be strictly enforced this year. This is your warning!

E.        Absolutely no changing at the fields outside of your car, reported incidents will result in suspensions. 1st  reported incident 1 game, 2nd - The season.

F.        Any team that forfeits 4 or more games can be prohibited from playing in the league the following year. The team may complete it’s schedule and may play in the playoffs.

G.        League Fees are due without exception on March 18,  .2008

H.          When your team has a game on a day when it might rain or the day after rain. Please have someone on your team responsible to carry rakes, shovels and brooms to make the fields playable.

I.         DO NOT rake clay into grass if field is unplayable do not play. Teams could be fined by town.

J.       If there is standing water on the field and the umpire does not want to stay and umpire the game, but the mangers decide to play the game will count in the standing

K.        Any problems with umpires - A complaint must be submitted to the league commissioner the day after the game. Included in complaint will be the umpires name and a detailed description of why he should not umpire any further games in our league. Then the commissioner will decide whether to submit the request to have the above said umpire removed from Double AA Sports (M.I.S.L.) games.

L.      Anyone thrown out of the game by the umpire’s will receive a one game suspension. If the same player gets thrown out of another game that player is suspended for the remainder of the season including playoff’s.

M.       Shirts or some sort of uniform are required by all teams by the 2nd game of the season or team  forfeits

N.       Double AA Sports -(MISL) is a Men’s Slow Pitch Softball League, that’s how we are insured and registered with the American Softball Association (A.S.A.).

O.        Protests - There will be a $35. Charge for all Double AA Sports (MISL) league filed protests if you win the protest the money is refunded if you lose the protest the money goes to the league.

P.       The 2008 Standings / Statistics etc. will be posted weekly on the league web site www.doubleaasports.com .

Q.        Any team that wants to participate in the League Leaders awards MUST submit stats by the Friday after the 2nd,4th,6th,8th,10th,12th,14th and last week of the regular season.

R.        Fighting will not be tolerated at all. Anyone fighting (physical contact) will be suspended for the season.

S.        Make-ups must be scheduled within 3 business days and played within 3 weeks. Once the game is re-scheduled    that's the date. Do not schedule the game with the commissioner until both teams agree on the date. Managers please work with each other to get these games scheduled.

T.       Managers are responsible to have the Umpire sign their scorebook “Before” each game.

U.        Managers are responsible to review Double AA Sports (MISL) specific rules with the umpire before each game during ground rules.

V.     Double AA Sports (MISL) will not use the double base at first base for the 2008 season as per manager’s vote at league meeting.

 

2. GAME

  

A.             The league is governed by ASA slow pitch softball rules.

B.             Unlimited substitution: players can rotate and re-enter the game, providing players    occupy the same position in the batting order.

C.                    Both the DH and EH can substitute for players in the field. But if you start with 12 you must finish with 12 players in the batting order or when that turn comes up it will be an out. Teams must also state number of batters before the game.

D.                   Each team must field at least 8 players to start the game. If a team cannot field 8, it must forfeit. If a player has to leave once the game has started, that team may continue to play as long as it can field 8 players. If they cannot field 8, they forfeit.

E.                    All games will start at 6:15pm with 6:30pm being the forfeit time. 2008 each team might play 1 or 2 games at 7:30-8:00 as part of a doubleheader. If your team has 10 at 6:15pm the game starts. If you have 9 players you do not have to start until 6:30. Players who arrive after game starts can be inserted at the end of the batting order without penalty. Games will consist of  7 innings with 5 full innings being needed for an official game, 4 1/2 if the home team is leading. If the umpire does not show up at all, the coaches can agree to play the game using an agreed upon person as the umpire or they can have the game rescheduled. PLEASE try to play games !!!!

F.         Each team will supply 1 softball (League Supplied Softball)

G.          The home team will supply the bases.

H.         There is No Bunting

I.         There is no base stealing.

J.           Slow Pitch: Runner may leave base when ball crosses the plate or hit

K.              A team is allowed one courtesy runner per inning who must be the last batted out except in the first inning when it will be the last person in the batting order. If a courtesy runner is due to bat while he is still on base, the original runner will come back out to run, and the courtesy runner will take his normal turn at bat.

L.                  There is a 15 run rule in effect after 5 full innings have been completed or 4 ½ if the home team is leading. After the 5th inning, any team that is behind by 15 or  more runs must get their at bat for that inning. At any time from the 5th inning on, any team that fails to come within 14 runs after completing their at bat, loses the game.

M.                No metal spikes - anyone wearing metal spikes will be ejected from the game, until he can change to rubber spikes or sneakers.

N.                Collision Rule - ASA enforced.

O.                  Bases are 60 feet as per MISL rules due to field limitations

P.                  A player can only play on one team during the season for the league. If player is caught playing on a second team that game will be forfeited.

Q.                   If the batter is hit by the pitch a ball is awarded no advance by runners (if ball four award first base then runners advance if forced).

R.                 Double AA Sports (MISL) Slow Pitch - The pitching is strictly lob pitch. No speed at all on the pitch. The arc is 6-12 feet from the ground. An illegal pitch will be called if either the pitch is too high or too fast. An illegal pitch is considered a ball.. After 3 illegal pitches the pitcher is removed from pitching for the remainder of that game. If an illegal pitch is called and the batter hits the ball it’s live.

S.                    In case of rain or darkness - regular season: Rain or darkness before the end of the 5th inning or 4 ½ innings if the home team is leading, then the game is replayed. Rain or darkness after the 5th inning then revert back to the last complete inning and the game is over, if the game is tie then teams will receive a tie.

T.                    Game Credits: If your team receives a forfeit Win everyone on your team receives credit for that game. If your team forfeits a game No-one on your team receives credit for the game.

U.                   If the pitcher throws a ball out of play on a pitch no bases will be awarded to the runners.

V.                    3rd Strike foul is an out !

W.                 The mound is 50 feet from home plate

   

3. PLAYOFF'S

 

A.       Playoff format: Top 6 records will make the playoff’s. Teams will be seeded by record. The #1 and #2 Seeds will be the Division Winners. The #3,#4,#5 and #6 Seeds will be the next best four records in the league.   #1 and #2 Seed will get a bye from the first round.

B.        In the first round the pairings will be as follows 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 this will be a best of three format.
- The winners from the first round will meet in the 2nd round where #1 will play the lowest seed remaining and #2 will play the higher seed remaining from 1st round in a best of 3 game format. 
- The remaining two teams will then play in a best of three championship series.

C.       Tie breaker will be head to head record. If there is still a tie, record in division, lowest runs allowed per game, runs scored,  then a coin toss.

D.        The team with the best seed in each series will be the Home Team in the 1st and 3rd game.

E.        You must play in 5 games to be eligible for the playoff’s as a company employee.

F.       In the case of rain or darkness in a playoff game the game will be continued for a complete 7 innings or 6 ½ if the home team is leading, Continue from exact point from rain or darkness no revert back.

G.          The 15 run rule is in effect for the playoffs.

H.         The playoff schedule – Will be set at the beginning of the season and will only be adjusted by the commissioner to account for days company needs off

  

4. Field Ground Rules and Directions

                 

FARDALE: Any ball which is hit over the logs in right field on a fly is a home run. Any ball which bounces over or goes under the logs in right field is a ground rule triple to the right of the third tree otherwise Homerun. If the ball lands in fair territory and bounces into the soccer net (right field) it is a ground rule double.

Commodore Perry SB and BB Fields: Open Fields..Ground rules will be discussed at the fields                 SB is the softball field, BB is the baseball field

Ridge: Ridge field will have a homerun limit on the right and left field lines of 3 per game. Then it is an out. The line will be determined at the field by the teams and the umpire.

 

Directions to Fields

          

Directions to Fardale Take 17 North to MacArthur Blvd. MacArthur Blvd Exit left at light to the end of MacArthur turn right on Darlington, left on Seminary Road, left on Campgaw Road go until slight fork in road and bare left on Youngs Road, then a right on Chapel Road and field is on your left.               

Commodore Perry SB and BB Fields are located on the corner of Island Road and East Ramapo Ave. Take 17 North to MacArthur Blvd. MacArthur Blvd Exit go straight thru light and fields are up on right approx 1 mile by the tennis courts

Ridge: Route 17 North to MacArthur Blvd at the top of the ramp at the light make a left onto MacArthur Blvd at the 2nd light at the top of MacArthur Blvd make a right on Ridge Road. The Ridge field is behind the tennis courts at the middle school. The 1st school.

Franklin Lakes Field Take 17 North to MacArthur Blvd. MacArthur Blvd Exit left at light to the end of MacArthur turn right on Darlington, left on Seminary Road, left on Campgaw Road go until end make a right on Pulis Ave then left on Vichiconti into Recreation Facility
